| Description |
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and suitably qualified Senior Practitioner to join a beautiful Nursery in the Centre of Reading.
This nursery was recently refurbished; it is set in a spacious building with excellent facilities for both children and staff. There is free parking for drivers and the setting is also on an easy bus route for non drivers. As the Nursery is large (94 place) the staffing structure allows for Unit Heads to run the different rooms and report directly to the management staff.
The successful candidate will be running a room with 5 members of staff (some full time and some part time) the room cares for 33 children.
Main outline of the Unit Head role:
•You will assist the Nursery Manager to ensure the efficient and effective running of the Nursery in accordance with their standards of customer service, Policies, Health and Safety and Equality of Opportunity. •A fundamental aspect of the role is adherence to safeguarding good practice and ensuring the overall welfare of the children. •To take the lead role in directing and co-ordinating the staff team within preschool unit. •To direct the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) to help young children achieve the five Every Child Matters outcomes on a daily basis. •To take the lead role in the absence of the Deputy Manager/Nursery Manager and to take the lead role in inspections as appropriate.
Main duties of the Unit Head:
•To have operational deputy responsibilities for the effective and efficient management of Nursery staff and to undertake the following specific responsibilities. •To manage the work of the Childcare Practitioners. •To ensure Reading University Students’ Union’s personnel practices and procedures are strictly adhered to and advise the Nursery Manager accordingly. •To participate in identifying staff training needs with recommendations to the Nursery Manager. •To supervise and provide advice, guidance and training to students, trainees and others on work placements or work experience in order that they receive the appropriate support and guidance.
The nursery offers a very competitive salary as well as company pension scheme, 21 days holiday (not including bank holidays) and an additional 6 closure days to be taken at Christmas and Easter. Hours per week range between 36 and 40 on a rota basis.
